Recommended Readings

We are trialling a "Haematology Recommended Readings" list. Obviously, there are thousands of haematology-related publications out there and it would be too ambitious for us to try to compile a comprehensive listing.

Rather, we are aiming to build up a smaller, selective list of publications by inviting you to tell us what should be on that list.

Please send us the reference details of a publication you recommend as a useful/interesting read. You can send more than one by resubmitting the form. You do not need to be an HSANZ member to do this.

  • A paper which presents a relatively new classification of myeloproliferative syndromes.

    Mayo Clin Proc. 2005; 80(9): 1220-1232
    Authors: Tefferi and Barbui

Recommended by Dr H Pullon: "This is a September 2005 paper by Prof. Tefferi, who was one of the guest peakers at the recent HSANZ Meeting in Sydney . The paper covers some of the material he talked on in Sydney, and presents a relatively new classification of myeloproliferative syndromes, especially relevant in the wake of the Jak-2 mutation discovery. The paper is published in Proceedings of the Mayo Clinic, which is not a Journal most haematologists frequently read."

  • JAKing up hematopoietic proliferation

Shannon K, Van Etten RA. Cancer Cell. 2005 Apr;7(4):291-3

Recommended by Dr A. Roberts: "Review of exciting new discoveries in 2005 about the molecular basis of PRV and some ET and myelofibrosis"

  • A gain-of-function mutation of JAK2 in myeloproliferative disorders

    Kralovics R, et al. N Engl J Med. 2005 Apr 28;352(17):1779-90

Recommended by Dr A. Roberts: "One of four seminal papers on the molecular basis of PRV and some ET and myelofibrosis"

  • Activating mutation in the tyrosine kinase JAK2 in polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, and myeloid metaplasia with myelofibrosis

Levine RL, et al. Cancer Cell. 2005 Apr;7(4):387-97

Recommended by Dr A. Roberts: "One of four seminal papers on the molecular basis of PRV and some ET and myelofibrosis."

  • A unique clonal JAK2 mutation leading to constitutive signalling causes polycythaemia vera

James C, et al. Nature. 2005 Apr 28;434(7037):1144-8

Recommended by Dr A. Roberts: "One of four seminal papers on the molecular basis of PRV and some ET and myelofibrosis"

  • Acquired mutation of the tyrosine kinase JAK2 in human myeloproliferative disorders n Antipodean's History of Haematology

Baxter EJ, et al. Cancer Genome Project. Lancet. 2005 Mar 19;365(9464):1054-61
