HOTT FELLOWSHIP AWARDS 2011
(Roche, COSA, MOGA and HSANZ)
Purpose: These awards support clinical or translational research, or other project initiatives of benefit to the clinical oncology or haematology community within Australia.
Value: Two grants of $50,000 each in 2011.
Applications:

All applications will be assessed by a panel of experts and the successful applicants will be notified within six to eight weeks of the closing date.

NEW INVESTIGATOR SCHOLARSHIPS 2010 for 2011
(AMGEN, CELGENE, NOVARTIS and HSANZ)
Purpose: To enhance the scientific stature of Australian and New Zealand Haematology by providing the opportunity for medical graduates who are undertaking advanced training in Haematology or science graduates undertaking specialised research in Haematology to gain experience in acknowledged centres of excellence.
Sponsored by: AMGEN, CELGENE, NOVARTIS and HSANZ.
Scope: For a period of 1 year; three scholarships with a value of AUD50,000 (tax free status if enrolled for a full time higher degree).
Eligibility:

Open to Australian and New Zealand HSANZ members who are:

  • medical graduates completing, or have just completed, advanced training in Haematology, or
  • science graduates undertaking specialised research in Haematology, preferably with enrolment in a higher degree, or
  • able to demonstrate long-term commitment to a career in Haematology.

There are 3 scholarships available in 2010 (to be taken up in 2011). Australian and New Zealand graduates are eligible.
Scholarships must be used for specialised study in clinical or laboratory Haematology in an internationally recognised centre of excellence. Preference will be given to individuals going to overseas centres.

Applications: Applications will be called for in March/April each year and will be considered by the HSANZ Council at its June/July meeting. Council may wish to interview selected applicants.

EDUCATIONAL GRANTS
(Janssen-Cilag, Pfizer and HSANZ)
Purpose: The aim of these grants is to support trainee members of the Society to attend and present at an international meeting.
Value: Four grants of $3000 each
Applications: All applications will be considered by HSANZ Council and the successful applicants will be announced at the annual meeting.

BAIKIE AWARD
Purpose: The Albert Baikie Award is given to recognise the best oral presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting by a new investigator who is a financial member of the Society. Investigators awarded their postgraduate qualification in Australia or overseas (MSc, FRACP, FRCPA or PhD, or overseas equivalent) within the past 5 years are eligible.
Value: $3000, Baikie Medal
Applications:

Applications will be called for in the Registration Brochure of the Annual Scientific Meeting with the closing date the same as the abstract submission. The award is announced on the last day of the annual meeting.

HSANZ TRAVEL GRANT TO THE ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING
Purpose: To assist members with attendance at annual scientific meetings. Applicants must submit an abstract, register for the meeting and satisfy the criteria.

Value: Up to $1000
Tenable: At the HSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting.
Applications: Applications will be called for in the Registration Brochure of the Annual Scientific Meeting with the closing date the same as the abstract submission. Applicants are advised of the grant at least 4 weeks before the meeting. Preference will be given to those applicants who have not before received an ASM travel grant.

2010 Celgene Awards for Clinical Research in Hematology
Purpose:

Future Leaders in Hematology Award
Careers Achievement Award
To recognise fellows who have greatly contributed to the hematology field.
Young Investigators Award

To recognise a clinician under the age of 45 years who has made a noteworthy research contribution in clinical haematology during his or her career.

Award recipients will be determined by an independent selection committee based on their clinical contributions to haematology.

Leukaemia Foundation National Research Program 2011 Postdoctoral Fellowships
Purpose:

To encourage talented young medical graduates and scientists to pursue a career in basic, applied or translational research to find better treatments and cures and better ways to care for patients and families living with haematological malignancies.

Value: Three fellowships for programs commencing in 2011. Successful applicants will be eligible for up to $75,000 salary and $25,000 consumables.

Anthony Rothe Scholarship
Purpose:

To support research in a University, or affiliated public hospital or public benevolent institution in New South Wales into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of leukaemia and allied blood disorders.
